The Eternal Light of Egypt
The Photography of Sarite Sanders

January 16–June 13, 2010

Contemporary photographer Sarite Sanders has produced a stunning collection of photographs that capture the mysterious radiance and residual spirituality of Egypt’s ancient ruins. These dramatic black-and-white photographs, complemented by quotations from a range of sources, recall the iconic early 19th-century travel photography that captured for Westerners the awe and majesty of Pharaonic Egypt.

Photographed using infrared film, the images are often dark and edgy, and reveal the ancient monuments in sharp relief, forcing us to see, as though for the first time, Egypt’s timeless pyramids, imposing statues, and breathtaking architecture. This exhibition will include 40 photographs and is accompanied by a fully illustrated book.
