9:00 am – Noon (ages 6–8), 1:00-4:00 pm (ages 9–11)

Program Fee*: $60 for non-members, $45 for members

Register online:   6-8 Years Old    9-11 Years Old

Students will deepen their engagement in the artistic process and share their creations on the third day of the workshop at a show of the students’ work. Classes are taught by a NYS certified art educator.

Masterpiece Puppet Theater
June 29–July 1

Create an original puppet show with
your own marionettes.
Art That Goes
Aug. 31–Sept. 2

Use art and objects related to transportation
as inspiration for your own work.

*includes materials and museum admission for all three days.

 

On Wednesdays, July & August, 10:00–11:30 am (ages 3–5)

An inspiring setting gives preschool children and their adult companions a chance
to become familiar with the museum and explore and grow through art. Gallery visits
are followed by an art activity in our studio. Workshops are taught by a NYS certified art educator.

July 7–Fishy Drawings
Use a variety of drawing materials to create an underwater scene inspired by our exhibitions.
August 4–Popsicle Stick Buildings
Create original architecture using popsicle sticks and pictures from magazines.
July 14–Resist Painting
Express yourself in watercolors and use a variety of materials to create a resist painting.
August 11–Animal Collage
Collage tissue paper shapes and colors to make your favorite animal.
July 21–Textures and Shapes
Explore textures and shapes using foam and paint.
August 18–Vegetable Growth Cycles Book
Create books that illustrate the growth cycles of vegetables.
July 28–Funny Faces Sculptures
Harness the fun of model magic to create funny face sculptures.
August 25–Landscape Collage
Use a variety of materials to create a collage inspired by landscape paintings in our galleries.

*price per person, includes materials and museum admission.

Experience the art of Albany. Instructors will lead neighborhood walks to examine shape,
color, pattern, texture, and architecture. Classes are taught by a NYS certified art educator.

July 7One-Point Perspective Drawings
Learn how to use one-point perspective to create architectural drawings.
August 4Tunnel Book Cities
Create cityscape tunnel books using line drawings, watercolors and cut paper.
July 14Watercolor Facades
Examine the facades of nearby buildings to inspire a watercolor painting.
August 11One Picture, Many Media
Inspired by architecture, explore the ways
your picture changes through drawing, etching,
and embossing.
July 21Collagraph Building Prints
Create a collage using cardboard building shapes; seal and print it using colored inks and papers.
August 18Botanical Brown Bag Books
Examine and illustrate botanical samples and create brown paper bag books to hold them.
July 28Ceramic Gargoyle Faces
Inspired by the gargoyles that adorn nearby St. Peter’s Church, create gargoyle faces from clay.
 
August 25Landscape Collage
Use a variety of materials to create a collage inspired by the landscape design of
Washington Park.

Explore a variety of materials to create mystery creature drawings, paintings and sculptures.

Arrange handmade objects to design
your own fantasy interior.
July 15Still-Life
Arrange object reproductions and visit our galleries to learn about still-life and inspire your own work.
August 12Photography:
Making the New Old

Have your portrait taken by one of our art educators and apply artistic techniques to make your new portrait look old. Hand-engrave your own decorative mat.

July 22Fabric Collage Totes
Create one-of-a-kind tote bags using recycled neck ties to produce unique designs.
August 19Botanical Brown Bag Books
Collect and illustrate botanical samples and create brown paper bag books to hold them.

Textured Tessellations
Imprint textures in clay to create a tessellation tile wall hanging.
August 26Narrative Collage
Inspired by several museum masterpieces, use a variety of materials to tell a story through a narrative collage.
