Students from across the region visit the Albany Institute for curriculum-based presentations and activities. Topics range from Colonial America to Ancient Egypt.


The Albany Institute of History & Art provides opportunities for students and teachers to learn about our shared histories and the art of our nation. Using its world-renowned collection including Hudson River School paintings, decorative arts, historic objects and rare documents as well as special exhibitions, the Albany Institute offers valuable learning experiences that address New York State curriculum an National Standards. New York State and National Standards addressed during our programs are listed on our website and are available as a downloadable PDF for your convenience.

Museum Lessons

Professional museum educators and trained volunteer docents teach students topics aligned with K through 12 curriculum using critical and visual thinking strategies in the galleries of the museum.

Videoconferencing

Videoconferencing lessons allow students around the world to view the Albany Institute's collections and understand topics aligned with K through 12 curriculum. Topics include: Colonial America, Ancient Egypt, Portraits, and the Hudson River School.

Teacher Services

The Albany Institute’s Education Department welcomes the opportunity to collaborate with schools and teachers in curriculum development and special projects.  Resources include: special educator member rates, teacher workshops, pre- and in-service professional development opportunities and teaching resources.
