View from Olana complements the Albany Institute's already strong collection of 18th, 19th and 20th century landscapes depicting views of the upper Hudson Valley. Located in Hudson, New York, Olana was the home of 19th century Hudson River School artist Frederic Church, and its spectacular views have been painted by many artists over the years. Sullivan explains, "I use landscape as metaphor simultaneously embracing a wide range of contradictory emotions...l select sites that have iconographic significance and emotional baggage." 

Bill Sullivan is a nationally-known contemporary artist from New York City. He received his M.F.A. from the University of Pennsylvania and studied privately with Josef and Annie Albers.
