Charles-Honore Lannuier (1779-1819)
Mahogany, mahogany veneer, basswood, ash, cherry, eastern white pine, yellow-poplar, cut brass inlay, ormulu mounts and brass casters, c. 1817
AIHA Collection: Gift of Stephen Van Rensselaer Crosby, grandson of Harriet Bayard and Stephen Van Rensselaer IV, and grandnephew of Maria Bayard and Duncan Pearsall Campbell

Parisian-trained cabinetmaker Lannuier arrived in New York in 1803, one of many French emigre craftsman who came to work in major American cities at the end of the 18th century. Lannuier brought to America an excellent knowledge of current fashions and contacts in the Paris trades that could supply him with prevailing design sources and superior ornaments such as fine ormulu mounts and possibly stamped brass inlays.
