Bell System Public Telephone Sign; United States Steel, c. 1930;
AIHA Collection: Gift of Elaine M. Liuzzi
This "Public Telephone" sign hung outside of Carmino and Margarita Liuzzi's grocery store at 103 Orange Street in Albany. Members of the Liuzzi family worked in the Orange Street grocery store, which served as a center of community activity for more than 20 years. For many neighborhood families, the store was the only place they had access to a telephone.
