This contract, dated May 6, 1819, sets the terms of agreement between William Cozzens and the Erie Canal Commission for the purpose of quarrying stone from Cozzens' property for use in constructing the canal. Cozzens owned land in the town of Aurelius in Cayuga County, New York. The contract allowed the Canal Commission to quarry stone and carry it off the land for a period of three years. In return, Cozzens received a payment of $105.00, which he noted receiving on May 6, 1819, the same day the contract was written and signed.
