Winter 2008 Teacher Workshop Opportunities

 

19th Century Industry, Iron and Production

February 6, 2008, 3:00pm – 6:00pm

 

The Albany Institute of History & Art welcomes New York State educators of all grade levels to a teacher workshop focusing on the production, use, distribution, and design of objects made from iron in the 19th century and how they relate to social history of that era. Teachers will be introduced to the exhibition by the Education Department staff, and receive teacher materials relating to Social Studies, Visual Arts and English Language Arts NYS Standards. Please RSVP by January 23, 2008.

 

Art and Nature: The Hudson River School Paintings

April 10, 2008, 3:30pm – 6:30pm

 

The Albany Institute presents a teacher workshop based on its holdings of 19th century American landscape tradition known as the Hudson River School. Teachers will be introduced to the collection by Tammis Groft, Deputy Director for Collections and Exhibitions, and receive teacher materials relating to Social Studies, Visual Arts and English Language Arts. Please RSVP by April 4, 2008.

Virtual Teacher Workshops

This program demonstrates the possibilities of integrating lessons via videoconferences into classroom curricula. A museum educator briefly reviews the content of the lessons described above and introduces teachers to this exciting new way to connect with the art, artifacts and library resources of the Albany Institute.

Professional Development 

The Albany Institute can design and implement teacher workshops to meet the specific needs within the classroom. Sessions can occur at your site or at the museum.  Topics can range from the broad "Integrating Objects and Primary Resources into the Classroom" Teaching” to the more specialized “The Material Culture of the 19th Century”.  Fees vary.

Reproductions and Slides 

Many of the objects in the Albany Institute’s collection are available in photographic form (slides and prints) for use in classroom teaching.  These images are only for instructional purposes and must not be duplicated, under penalty of law.  Follow link or call for Rights and Reproductions in the Albany Institute’s Curatorial Department to inquire (518-463-4478).
