The Albany Institute of History & Art (AIHA) has created a new internship program ideal for high school seniors interested in the museum field. Only one student will be chosen for each session, which will last 8 weeks. This is a wonderful opportunity for a student to experience all aspects of how a museum runs though 7 different departments: Director’s Office, External Relations (Development & PR), Library, Education, Curatorial, the Museum Shop, and Visitor Services. The selected student will be responsible for completing weeklong projects or shadowing certain key staff members.

Summary of Position:

The student chosen for this position will be shadowing members of the staff in various departments. This position is flexible and is meant for a student at the high school level who has a background in the arts and is interested in Museum and/or Library Studies. This is a lot like the General Museum Internship, however it requires less time and commitment and is perfect for a high school student. The behind the scenes knowledge of each department will give the intern incite into which area(s) interest him or her most, hopefully aiding in finding a direction in his or her studies.

Job Duties:

·        Shadow and assist the staff member assigned

·        Keep notes on the various positions available

 Requirements:

We prefer upper-level high school student working interested in the arts, Museum Studies, or Library Science.

Position availability:

Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer

Hours:

A minimum of 20 hours per week with flexible scheduling
