Frequently Asked Questions

 Q: Can I receive high school or college credit for my internship?

A: Yes, you must provide the necessary documentation for the Intern Coordinator to fill out in regards to your school’s policies regarding credit for internships.

 

Q: Where do interns park their cars? Do interns pay for parking?

A: Interns must find their own parking in the city of Albany. There are a number of streets only one to two blocks away that have free parking, however if a space is not found then the intern must pay for parking. The Albany public bus system may also be an option.

 

Q: What is the dress code for the museum? 

A: The policy of the Albany Institute is to allow a business casual dress.  Employees should dress appropriately and therefore no jeans, t-shirts, tennis shoes, flip-flops, etc. are permitted.  Supervisors' are authorized to evaluate employee attire and may make changes as necessary (i.e.: nice jeans only in the museum shop).  There may be occasions when employees are expected to dress in business attire.

 

Q: Are there stipends available to interns?

A: Currently, there are no stipends available to interns.

 

Q: Can transcripts and letters of recommendation be sent separately from the application?

A: No, the Museum will only review complete applications.

 

Q: May I submit my application by e-mail or fax?

A: Because transcripts and recommendations are considered confidential information, only application submitted by mail will be reviewed. However, please feel free to call, e-mail or fax questions you may have regarding the process.

 

Q: Do you conduct interviews before accepting applicants into the program?

A: Yes, candidates will be contacted to set up an interview, which may be conducted either in person or by phone, depending on your proximity to the museum.

Q: If I am not accepted into a program, may I reapply for a different one?
A: Yes, we encourage all students to apply again if they were not accepted.

Q: How many interns do you accept into each program?
A: The number of interns entered into the program varies by departmental needs.

Q: Do I have to be currently enrolled as a student to be eligible for an internship?
A: No, the Internship Program is geared towards both current students and recent graduates. Recent graduates is defined as up to 3 months after graduation from college undergraduate or graduate studies)
