Internship Program


Requirements

 General College Requirements:

  • We prefer upper-level undergraduate or graduate student
  • A minimum of 10 hours per week

 

General High School Requirements:

  • We prefer upper-level high school student interested in the arts, museum studies, library science, public relations, marketing, education, and business.
  • A minimum of 6 hours per week

Specific Department Requirements:

Business

  • We prefer a student working towards a degree in business administration, arts administration, arts management, finance, or accounting.

Administration

  • We prefer a student working towards a degree in arts administration, museum studies, business administration, or a museum-related field like art history or art.

 

Education

  • We prefer students with a major or coursework in museum education, history, art history, education, museum studies or art.

 

PR/Marketing

  • We prefer a student working towards a degree in communications, marketing, public relations, business administration, finance, or a museum-related field like art history or art.

 

Development

  • We prefer a student working towards a degree in business administration, development, museum studies, finance, communications, marketing, fund raising, or a museum-related field like art history or art.

 

Museum Shop

  • Good math and organizational skills, excellent customer service, dependable and experience with computers 

General Museum

  • We prefer a high school or undergraduate student who is interested in pursuing a career in a museum and wants to learn more about this field.

 

Rental Program

  • Upper-level undergraduate or graduate student interested in a career in arts management, art history, studio art, museum studies, or history preferred.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision required.  

  • Position is available on a sporadic basis.    

Library

  • A minimum of 8 hours per week.

Bibliography:

  • We prefer a student interested in archives, special libraries, history, public history, anthropology, etc.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. 

  • Previous research experience is a plus. 

Cataloging:

  • We prefer a student interested in a career as a cataloger in archives or libraries.

  • Prefer knowledge of MARC, MARC AMC, LCSH, AACR2, and DDC

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. 

  • Experience working with Winnebago Spectrum a plus.       

Collections Processing Intern:

  • We prefer a student interested in a career in archives, special libraries, history, art history, public history, etc.

  • Previous experience working in an archive a plus. 

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.  

Manuscripts Intern:

  • We prefer a student interested in a career in archives, special libraries, history, art history, public history, etc. 

  • Previous experience working in an archive a plus. 

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.  

Manuscripts Inventory Intern:

  • We prefer a student interested in a career in archives, special libraries, public history, etc. 
  • Previous experience working in an archive a plus. 
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Periodicals Intern:

  • We prefer a student interested in a career in archives or libraries. 

  •     Prefer knowledge of MARC, LCSH, AACR2, and DDC.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. 

  • Experience working with Winnebago Spectrum a plus.  

Photograph Inventory Intern:

  • We prefer a student interested in a career in archives, special libraries, public history, history, anthropology, etc.

  • Knowledge of photographic processes and previous experience working in an archive helpful.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.  

Preservation Intern:

  • We prefer a student interested in a career in conservation or preservation of paper based collections.
  • Clerical skills (e.g., typing, computers, filing, photocopying).
  • Familiarity with photocopiers. 
  • Dexterity to carefully handle fragile materials. 
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. 
  • Willingness to perform basic tasks. 

Reference Intern:

  • We prefer a student interested in a career in archives and libraries.

  • Previous experience researching local history or providing reference assistance is preferred.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.  

Library-Education Intern

  • We prefer a student interested in a career in education or libraries. 

  • Clerical skill (e.g., typing, computers, filing, photocopying). 

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.  

Grant Writing Intern:

  • We prefer a student interested in obtaining grant writing experience.
  • Research skills including the ability to use both print and electronic information sources. 
  • Good writing skills. 
  • Ability to use MS Word. 
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. 
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
