The Albany Institute
of History & Art has 2 openings for an hourly Data
Entry Technician on a limited-term basis (February 1, 2008 to
July 31, 2008) in the Curatorial department. The position is
full time 35 hours per week, $12 per hour. No benefits.
Responsibilities are entering
existing paper based catalog data into new PastPerfect
database. Must be entered in accordance to museum cataloging
standards and practices. Supplemental material from the object
file will be assimilated into authority files including artist
biographies, previous exhibition information, previous loan
information, and publications. Once entered into the database,
the object file will be rehoused and reorganized so that all
information both electronic and paper meet archival and museum
standards.
Using the
object files as source, create (and “people”) one object
record per object including: the basic cataloging information
as written on the previously completed cataloging worksheet,
correctly categorize the object into the Chenhall Nomenclature
Hierarchy, accurately transcribe measurements from English
fractions to metric decimals, transcribe provenance, artist or
maker information and background, donor information, usage
history, condition report and condition history, appraisal or
other value information including outgoing loan values, and
pre-existing
AIHA
authority values for association, themes and subjects.
Qualifications:
Experience with or education in museum collections management
systems and computer application preferred. College level
coursework in appropriate museum discipline preferred.
Experience working with museum collection documentation
systems preferred. Requires data processing programs
experience and good computer skills. Computerized collection
management experiences a plus.
