FABRICA: Fiber Constructs by Estelle Kessler Yarinsky

September 15 - December 30, 2007

Using fabric, printed photographs, objects and elaborate stitching, regional artist, Estelle Kessler Yarinsky, recreates the stories of mostly women whose lives and activities were important to their communities. This exhibition of 20 fiber artworks include portraits of Emily Warren Roebling, (1843 – 1903) wife of Chief engineer of the Brooklyn Bridge who oversaw the finishing of the bridge after her husband became ill; Rosalind Franklin (1920-1958) who was posthumously recognized for her important contributions to the discovery of the structure of DNA; and Zora Neale Hurston (1891-1960, a prolific writer with degrees from Howard University and Columbia University is best known for stories about African-Americans and the poetry of black speech.
