ALBANY’S BASEBALL HISTORY TO BE DISCUSSED IN

TALK AT THE ALBANY INSTITUTE OF HISTORY & ART

ALBANY, NY—On Wednesday, May 30 at 12:30 pm, join freelance writer Jim Moore as he explores Albany’s baseball roots and the city’s contributions to the rise and progress of our national game, in his presentation Baseball and Politics in Lincoln’s America.

The focus of the talk will be on the baseball clubs organized at the State House and the Albany City Bank in the Spring of 1857, the game that they played in Washington Park that year, and the Lincoln Campaign Print published by Currier and Ives in September of 1860, about six weeks before the most important election in American History.

Connecting two of Albany’s first baseball clubs with America’s first popular baseball print, The National Game. Three “Outs” and One “Run.” Abraham Winning the Ball, gives us a new perspective on the politics of baseball, Lincoln’s first presidential campaign, and the significance of sports in young America.

This discussion will be presented as part of the weekly Wednesday Lunch Time Talks. These brief, content rich programs take an in-depth look at the history of the Upper Hudson Valley and Albany’s role in the shared histories of our nation. This program is FREE with museum admission.
