ALBANY INSTITUTE OF HISTORY & ART JOINS “1^st FRIDAYS”

Albany, NY--The Albany Institute of History & Art joins “1^st Fridays” on February 2 from 5:00-9:00pm with a showcase of three new exhibitions, live music, refreshments by regional purveyors and more!  “The 1^st Friday phenomenon is truly exciting for Albany residents and visitors alike,” said AIHA Director Christine Miles.  “We are thrilled to become part of this downtown celebration of arts and culture.”

"Earth and Fire: A Celebration of Clay and Ceramics" features three exhibitions spanning four centuries of ceramics from across the world.  The galleries will showcase objects ranging from 18th century Chinese Export porcelain to regional 19th century earthenware to 21st century pieces just out of the kiln by contemporary regional artists. 

The Rambling Jugstompers, the all-star Albany Quartet, will present three sets of “funky American string band music” during the evening.  Tasting stations will be provided courtesy of Mezzo Marketplace & Eatery and Brewery Ommegang.  Admission to the museum will be free.

Founded in 1791, the Albany Institute of History & Art (AIHA) is a 501(c) 3 cultural and educational institution dedicated to public service.  As a museum, its mission is to collect, preserve and interpret the art, history and culture of Albany and the upper Hudson Valley region from the 17th century to the present.  AIHA acquires collections, conducts research, produces publications, and offers a wide range of exhibitions, educational and public programs that appeal to diverse audiences ranging from pre-K to senior citizens.  The museum is open year round, Wednesday-Sunday.
