FEBRUARY’S MUSEUM SHOP BOOK & AUTHOR PROGRAMAT THE ALBANY INSTITUTE OF HISTORY & ARTALBANY, NY— The Albany Institute of History & Art is pleased to announce its Museum Shop Book & Author Program for the month of February: BEFORE ALBANY: An Archaeology of Dutch-Native Relations in the Capital Region, 1600-1664 with James Bradley on Sunday, February 18 at 2:00 pm. James Bradley, Ph.D is an archaeologist and educator specializing in the archaeology of Native American people of Northeastern North America and their cultures. His new book tells the story of how the Dutch newcomers represented by the West India Company and the Colony of Rensselaerswyck, interacted with the indigenous native people including the Mahicans, the Algonquin people who lived in the Hudson Valley, and the Mohawk, their Iroquoian neighbors to the west, in the first decades of the 17th century. Dr. Bradley explores how recent archaeological work has given us new insights into this period. The Museum Shop Book & Author Programs feature free lectures on recent books of special regional interest. Each talk is followed by a booksigning and books are available for purchase in the Museum Shop. The Albany Institute of History & Art is located at 125 Washington Avenue in downtown Albany, one block from the New York State Capitol.
