ALBANY, NY- The Albany Institute of History & Art is offering a variety of family programs in February.

Home School Program

Experience a home school program that incorporates both gallery and studio time.   A $10 fee per child includes museum admission and art materials. Registration is required and spaces are limited.  Register for all four classes for $35.             Folklore & Form

Learn about local folklore and ceramics by visiting our newest exhibition PAUL CUSHMAN: The Work and World of an Early 19th Century Albany Potter. In our studio use hand building techniques with an air drying clay to create a decorative folklore pot.

 
Storytelling & Art-Making

A special preschool hour designed for young children and their parents. First a storyteller reads a story in the AIHA galleries and then an AIHA educator has an art-making activity for preschoolers in the studio. $10 fee for adults and children are FREE.             The Jacket I Wear in the Snow by Shirley Neitzel and Nancy Winslow Parker

Rhyme follows rhyme as layer after layer of winter clothing is first put on and then taken off  to the relief of the child bundled inside. Have fun drawing,

cutting, pasting and creating all types of winter clothing.

            Saturday, February 24; 10:30-11:30 am

            Snowman at Night by Caralyn Buehner and Mark Buehner

            A child wonders why a snowman looks droopy the morning after it was

            made and decides that snowmen must be nocturnal. Using an air drying

            clay create an actions snowman with your preschooler.                                   

Family Art & Gallery Adventure

STAMP DESIGN

Visit our ceramics exhibition to learn the basics of design, technique and color. Join AIHA educators in the studio and discover the process of carving and printing a stamp.

            DRAWING FORMS

            Explore drawing from direct observation. Learn the fundamentals of line, value, form, perspective, composition and proportion by sketching in our galleries.

Vacation Art Break

During school vacation week children’s art workshops at the Albany Institute are offered. Classes frequently incorporate gallery visits to instill both content and context to lessons. A $10 fee for members and $15 fee for non-members covers the cost of materials and museum admission. Registration is required and spaces are limited. Elements of Art

Incorporate the elements of art in your artwork by strengthening your observations skills and using pastels, paint, pencils and clay in our studio.

Founded in 1791, the Albany Institute of History & Art (AIHA) is a 501(c) 3 cultural and educational institution dedicated to public service.  As a museum, its mission is to collect, preserve and interpret the art, history and culture of Albany and the upper Hudson Valley region from the 17th century to the present.  AIHA acquires collections, conducts research, produces publications, and offers a wide range of exhibitions, educational and public programs that appeal to diverse audiences ranging from pre-K to senior citizens.  The museum is open year round, Wednesday-Sunday.
