ALBANY INSTITUTE OF HISTORY & ART 

ALBANY, NY—The Albany Institute of History & Art is offering a variety of family programs in January.

Home School Program

Experience a home school program that incorporates both gallery and studio time.  A $10 fee per child includes museum admission and art materials. Registration is required and spaces are limited.  Register for all four classes for $35. January 4th  or 12th: Landscape Painting

Storytelling & Art-Making

A special preschool hour designed for young children and their parents. First a storyteller reads a story in the AIHA galleries and then an AIHA educator has an art-making activity for preschoolers in the studio. $10 fee for adults and children are FREE. The Dot by Peter Reynolds

“Just make a mark and see where it takes you." This advice, offered by her intuitive, intelligent teacher, sets our young heroine on a journey of self-expression, artistic experimentation, and success. In our studio use drawing materials to explore all types of dots.

Bear Snores On by Karma Wilson

A snoring bear remains oblivious as mouse, hare, badger, mole, wren and raven seek refuge in his cave from the blowing snow and frigid temperatures.  Explore a variety of materials with your preschooler to create animals from Bear Snores On.

 

Family Art & Gallery Adventure

   WINTER LANDSCAPE

Learn how to work with pastels, colored pencils, and paint.  Create composition and mood in a landscape by choice of color and placement of paint.

 Saturday, January 27; 2:30 – 4:30 pm

       PAPER TABLE SETTING

Explore mixed media drawing and collage to create a paper table setting.   Emphasis will be placed on individual creative expression, personal symbolism, and inspiration from gallery ceramics.

Founded in 1791, the Albany Institute of History & Art (AIHA) is a 501(c) 3 cultural and educational institution dedicated to public service.  As a museum, its mission is to collect, preserve and interpret the art, history and culture of Albany and the upper Hudson Valley region from the 17th century to the present.  AIHA acquires collections, conducts research, produces publications, and offers a wide range of exhibitions, educational and public programs that appeal to diverse audiences ranging from pre-K to senior citizens.  The museum is open year round, Wednesday-Sunday.
