ALBANY INSTITUTE OF HISTORY & ART ANNOUNCESJUNE THIRD THURSDAY PROGRAMALBANY, NY— Stay in town – or come downtown – for evening gallery hours, wonderful finds in the Museum Shop, and special programs during the Albany Institute of History & Art’s monthly Third Thursday Program. The Albany Institute of History & Art will hold its June Third Thursday program on June 21 from 5:30 – 7:30 pm. Festivities include the opening reception for the summer exhibitions LUMINOSITY: Paintings by Stephen Hannock and PARALLEL PASSAGES: Lynn Davis at the Sites of Frederic Edwin Church. The Albany Institute will also be a featured a stop on the Hidden City House & Garden tour, sponsored by the Historic Albany Foundation. LUMINOSITY features 20 paintings by Albany born artist Stephen Hannock, including self-portraits, landscapes and four major works with what the artist calls “Vistas with Text.” Also included are sketchbooks, photographs and two short films related to Hannock’s work. Hannock’s carefully crafted landscape paintings are renowned for their magnificent luminous qualities using his signature process of polished painted surfaces. Curated by Donald McKinney and Nicole Fiacco, PARALLEL PASSAGES examines the parallels in subject matter and expedition between the twenty-first century photographer and the nineteenth century Hudson River school painter, Frederic Edwin Church (1826 – 1900), both of whom are known for their travels around the globe in search of the world’s most compelling man-made and natural sites. During the June Third Thursday program, the Albany Institute will be a featured stop on the Historic Albany Foundations, Hidden City House & Garden Tour. During these tours, participants are able to take a closer look at the urban oases created by Center Square residents. Tickets can be purchased from the Historic Albany Foundation, Ben & Jerry’s and Mezzo Marketplace. Tickets are $15 per person prior to June 11 and $20 per person after.
