ALBANY, NY- The Albany Institute of History & Art is offering a variety of family programs in March.

Home School Program

Experience a home school program that incorporates both gallery and studio time. A $10 fee per child includes museum admission and art materials. Registration is required and spaces are limited.  Register for all four classes for $35. Thursday, March 1 and Friday, March 9; 1:30-4:30 pm

            Design & Drawing

Explore different types of design styles in our galleries.   In our studio enhance drawing and painting techniques by incorporating the elements of art in artwork with pencil, crayon, and watercolor. 

Storytelling & Art-Making

A special preschool hour designed for young children and their parents. First a storyteller reads a story in the AIHA galleries and then an AIHA educator has an art-making activity for preschoolers in the studio. $10 fee for adults and children are FREE.             Matthew’s Dream by Leo Lionni

A poor mouse couple lives in a dusty attic where they have great hopes for their only child. When they ask Matthew what he wants to be, however, he is uncertain--until the day his class goes on a field trip to the art museum.

            Russell the Sheep by Rob Scotton

Russell is one wide-awake sheep. When the sky grows dark and the other sheep in Frogsbottom Field drift into slumbers, Russell's eyes ("BOING!") are wide open. In our studio use shapes and mixed media to create a puppet that is awake and falls asleep.

           

Family Art & Gallery Adventure

Join a AIHA ceramics educator in our studio and learn the basics of hand building with clay.

            Focus on drawing, cutting and design to create paper furniture and ceramics.

Founded in 1791, the Albany Institute of History & Art (AIHA) is a 501(c) 3 cultural and educational institution dedicated to public service.  As a museum, its mission is to collect, preserve and interpret the art, history and culture of Albany and the upper Hudson Valley region from the 17th century to the present.  AIHA acquires collections, conducts research, produces publications, and offers a wide range of exhibitions, educational and public programs that appeal to diverse audiences ranging from pre-K to senior citizens.  The museum is open year round, Wednesday-Sunday.
