GALLERY TALKS FOR MARCH

ALBANY, NY—The Albany Institute of History & Art is pleased to announce its March schedule of Wednesday Lunch Time Talks and Saturday Gallery Talks.

Join members of the Curatorial and Education department staff for an in-depth look at and discussion about an object or two on display in a special exhibition or in our permanent collection galleries, during our Wednesday Lunch Time Talks.  These brief, content-rich programs are designed for those who want to learn about American painting, the decorative arts, the history of the Upper Hudson Valley and Albany’s role in the shared histories of our nation.  This month’s Wednesday Lunch Time talks will be held from 12:30 – 1:00 pm, on March 7, 14, 21 and 28.

On Saturdays in March, join one of our highly trained volunteer docents in exploring the Winter/Spring special exhibitions and the permanent collection.  At 2:00 pm there will be a gallery talk of The World and Work of Paul Cushman, Albany Potter, Iroquois Games & Dances (opens March 10) and Full Steam Ahead (opens March 24).  At 3:00 pm the gallery talk will take place in the Albany Institute’s permanent collections.  The March gallery talks will take place on March 3, 10 and 24.

PAUL CUSHMAN: The Work and World of an Early 19^th Century Albany Potter, is part of the Albany Institute’s EARTH & FIRE: A Celebration of Clay and Ceramics. IROQUOIS GAMES & DANCES features the work of Albany artist Thomas J. Dorsey, also known by his Indian name, Tom Two Arrows.  FULL STEAM AHEAD: Robert Fulton and the Age of Steamboats commemorates the 200^th anniversary of Fulton’s first steamboat voyage of the Clermont in 1807 from New York City to Albany.

Founded in 1791, the Albany Institute of History & Art (AIHA) is a 501(c) 3 cultural and educational institution dedicated to public service.  As a museum, its mission is to collect, preserve and interpret the art, history and culture of Albany and the upper Hudson Valley region from the 17th century to the present.  AIHA acquires collections, conducts research, produces publications, and offers a wide range of exhibitions, educational and public programs that appeal to diverse audiences ranging from pre-K to senior citizens.  The museum is open year round, Wednesday-Sunday.
