ANNOUNCES FAMILY PROGRAMS FOR NOVEMBER

ALBANY, NY—The Albany Institute of History & Art is offering a variety of family programs in November, including a variety of FREE activities on November 23, 24 and 25, as part of the Albany Institute’s FREE Thanksgiving Weekend courtesy of M & T Bank.

Home School Program

Experience a home school program where class subjects relate to the exhibitions on view and incorporate art historical references to provide context for learning.

A $10 fee per child includes museum admission and art materials. Registration is required and payment is due at the time of registering.  To make a reservation or for further information please contact Kristen Schweigard, Public & Family Programs Coordinator, at 518.463.4478 Ext. 435 or schweigardk@albanyinstitute.org. Age requirement is 8 years and older.

Fiber Constructs

This program will introduce fiber and cloth as a media to express and document your life, family and friends.

Storytelling & Art-Making

A special preschool hour designed for young children and their parents. First a storyteller reads a story in the AIHA galleries and then an AIHA educator has an art-making activity for preschoolers in the studio. $10 fee for adults and children are FREE. Fox in Socks, by Dr. Seuss

Find out what Fox and Knox are up to. Explore drawing and cutting techniques to create matching and mismatched socks.

 
Family Art & Gallery Adventure

Cornhusk Dolls

Join us in our studio and learn about Native American history and traditions as Mike Tarbel, from the Iroquois Museum leads a workshop on using cornhusks to create dolls.

The Puppet People Present “Firebird”; 2:30pm

The Puppet People present “Firebird.”  Inspired by the Russian folktale and popular ballet of “The Firebird”, watch as even the impossible is possible, as the mythical firebird comes to life and Ivan and Princess Yelena team up to break the enchantment placed over their kingdom.           In our studio, use a variety of mixed materials to create finger puppets; 1:30 – 4:30 pm.

Founded in 1791, the Albany Institute of History & Art (AIHA) is a 501(c) 3 cultural and educational institution dedicated to public service.  As a museum, its mission is to collect, preserve and interpret the art, history and culture of Albany and the upper Hudson Valley region from the 17th century to the present.  AIHA acquires collections, conducts research, produces publications, and offers a wide range of exhibitions, educational and public programs that appeal to diverse audiences ranging from pre-K to senior citizens.  The museum is open year round, Wednesday-Sunday.
