ALBANY INSTITUTE OF HISTORY & ART ANNOUNCESSEPTEMBER THIRD THURSDAY PROGRAMALBANY, NY— Stay in town – or come downtown – for evening gallery hours, wonderful finds in the Museum Shop, and special programs during the Albany Institute of History & Art’s monthly Third Thursday Program. The September Third Thursday program will be held on September 20 at 6:00 pm where Mike Tarbell, Museum Educator at the Iroquois Indian Museum, will tell traditional Iroquois stories, in conjunction with the Albany Institute’s exhibition, TOM TWO ARROWS: Iroquois Games and Dances. TOM TWO ARROWS: Iroquois Games and Dances, features the artwork of Albany artist Thomas J. Dorsey (1920-1993), also known by his Indian name, Tom Two Arrows. These paintings present the richness and vitality of traditional Iroquois culture and are accompanied by commentaries by Dorsey, that show an awareness of issues of identity and empowerment for native peoples that remain relevant today. Third Thursday Programs take place from 5:30-7:30PM and are FREE to the public. The presentation by Mike Tarbell will begin at 6:00PM sharp. Reservations for the program are not required but are requested and can be made by calling 518-463-5502 ext. 469.
