AIHA Construction Update

Construction continues on the Albany Institute of History & Art – inside and out. The new Collections Storage Wing is the first phase of the project to be completed. With its completion, all AIHA collections have been moved safely into their new state-of-the-art home. Renovation work continues on the Rice Building Annex, which includes a new multi-purpose room/auditorium on the third floor, an expanded Museum Shop and gallery space on the second floor, as well as a new Museum Education Center to be located on the first floor.

Everyone traveling along Washington Avenue has been able to watch the rapid progress over the summer of the new glass atrium that joins the Albany Institute’s two adjacent buildings. This contemporary limestone and glass addition will serve as a beautiful new entry to the museum, as well as a dramatic space for events and gatherings at the Institute. Director of Planning and Construction, Dennis Stevens, stated that the "craftsmen responsible for the limestone masonry have done a superb job, and the final product will be viewed as one of the finest limestone installations in the region in over 100 years."

The third phase of the construction project, the renovation of the interior of the museum, began in early September. The museum and its galleries will be restored to replicate its original grandeur when constructed in 1907.
