AIHA CO-SPONSORS STATE HUMANITIES MONTH 2001

The Albany Institute of History & Art is proud to serve as a co-sponsor with the New York Council for the Humanities for the fourth annual State Humanities Month (October 2001), a statewide celebration of New York’s historical and cultural riches.  State Humanities Month gives New Yorkers an opportunity to explore new ideas and celebrate their common heritage, while calling attention to the state’s unique contributions to the humanities.

As part of this celebration, on Wednesday, October 17 at 6:30pm, the Albany Institute will present the lecture, Art and Life in 1930s America by Dr. Virginia M. Mecklenburg, Senior Curator, Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington DC to complement the traveling exhibition, SCENES OF AMERICAN LIFE: Treasures from the Smithsonian American Art Museum.   Dr. Mecklenburg will discuss the art, the people, and the politics that shaped American life in the 1930s.

The New York Council for the Humanities is a private, not-for-profit organization dedicated to ensuring the presence of the humanities in the state’s cultural and intellectual life.  The Council’s grants program is designed to provide financial support for public humanities programming conceived and implemented by not-for-profit organizations across New York State.
