AIHA ISSUES CALL FOR BEATLES MEMORABILIA

The Albany Institute of History & Art is in the planning stage of Beatles Memorabilia: A Community Exhibition that will present a local perspective of The Beatles phenomena as a complement to the much-anticipated exhibition, The Beatles: Now and Then, Photographs by Harry Benson from December 18, 2002 through March 2, 2003.

The Beatles: Now and Then, Photographs by Harry Benson includes approximately 80 of Benson’s classic photographs of the Fab Four.  This exhibition chronicles The Beatles’ rise to stardom and their transformation to icons of contemporary culture.  Through his photographs, Benson captured John, Paul, George and Ringo in their most private and unguarded moments -- composing in a Paris hotel room, opening fan mail, swimming at the beach in Miami and at home with their wives and children.

In addition to this photography exhibition, the museum will present a community-based exhibition that celebrates the Fab Four with a selection of memorabilia on loan from Capital Region residents.  From toys to tea towels, from posters to photographs, from autographs to collectibles, Beatles fans are invited to call Tammis Groft, Deputy Director of Collections and Exhibitions at 518-463-4478, to discuss collection contents that are available for potential loan from December 1, 2002 through March 9, 2003.

A variety of educational and public programs are planned to complement both exhibitions including a family dance party, a series of lectures relating to music, photography and popular culture and a book signing by Harry Benson.
