Artists Needed for the 2002 Exhibition by Artists of the Mohawk-Hudson Region to be Held at AIHA
Artists residing within a 100-mile radius of the Capital District area are encouraged to participate in the 2002 Exhibition by Artists of the Mohawk-Hudson Region. Founded in 1936, this regional exhibition is among the longest-running regionals in the country and occupies a major role in the art activity of the Upper Hudson Valley.
This exhibition is sponsored jointly by the Albany Institute of History & Art; the University Art Museum, University at Albany; and the Schenectady Museum. This year’s exhibition, on view from June 15 through August 25, will be presented in the NEW Albany Institute of History & Art. In September 2001, AIHA completed a $17.8 million expansion project that restored and upgraded its two buildings, both of which are on the National Register of Historic Places and constructed additional facilities including a three-story glass atrium and a state-of-the-art collections storage wing.
Each artist may submit up to five 35mm slides of five recent works. Sculptors may submit two views of an entry. Slides must represent work available for this exhibition. Work previously exhibited in Mohawk-Hudson Regional is not eligible. Artists who would like to create site-specific work should submit detailed drawings and/or slides and a written description of the project. Installation artists should plan on making a site visit to the Albany Institute during regular museum hours.
A non-refundable entry fee of $15 will be charged. Slides, checklist, entry fee and completed entry form and notification card must be received at the Albany Institute by 5:00 pm, Monday, April 15, 2002. Entry forms are available by calling the Curatorial Department of AIHA at 518.463.4478.
Final selections for artwork and installations for the 2002 Exhibition by Artists of the Mohawk-Hudson Region will be made by the juror, Linda Norden, Associate Curator for Contemporary Art at the Fogg Art Museum at Harvard University, on Friday, May 31, 2002. Cash prizes and purchase awards will be presented to the selected artists at the Mohawk-Hudson Regional opening reception on Friday, June 21, 2002
