Silhouette Cutter to Mark Opening Day of YOUNG AMERICA at AIHA
Silhouette cutter Pamela Dalton will be at the Albany Institute of History & Art on Saturday, March 16, to provide visitors with a personalized historic memento of the exhibition, YOUNG AMERICA: Treasures from the Smithsonian American Art Museum. YOUNG AMERICA, which will be on view from March 16 through May 19, 2002, features more than 50 paintings and sculpture that trace the transformation of the colonies into nationhood between 1760s and the Civil War.
Appointments may be scheduled from 3:00 to 5:00 pm for sittings. Using a ‘camera obscura,’ Dalton will capture visitors’ profiles and cut the detailed image from a single piece of paper for a small fee. Pamela Dalton's Scherenschnitte have delighted collectors worldwide for almost twenty-five years. Her work is created in the tradition of early American paper cutting popular in the Pennsylvania Dutch regions of this country in the early nineteenth century.
