North Pearl and State Street Offset Lithograph Print

478

This reproduction of an 1849 watercolor painting by James Eights (1798–1882) depicts the corner of North Pearl and State Street as it appeared about 1814. Key buildings are numbered and identified with explanatory text on the back. Motivated by a desire to capture the substance of a rapidly changing city, Eights created from memory, research, and observation several pencil drawings and watercolor paintings of Albany street scenes as they appeared between 1805 and 1814. North Pearl and State Street is one of several works by Eights in the collection of the Albany Institute of History & Art.
