Sara Johns Griffen: The Hudson Valley Scenic Landscape

One of America’s most prominent landscape painters, Frederic Church immortalized the Hudson River Valley in luminous paintings inspired by the scenic beauty he saw as a student working with his mentor Thomas Cole, and later from his home, Olana.

Sara Johns Griffen, president of the Olana Partnership and vice chair of the Hudson River Valley Greenway Conservancy, offers a look at the breathtaking scenery that inspired a new school of painting, the role of the Hudson River School painters in environmental causes, and the efforts made by Olana and others to preserve this majestic landscape for the present and future.

This lecture is sponsored by the University at Albany and the University at Albany Foundation.
