Children will learn how colors interact when mixed or applied side by side. The elements of composition and painting will be discussed, while children’s technical and creative skills are developed through integration of both color and shape. Programs are held from 9:00 am to noon for children 6–8 years old; and from 1:00–4:00 pm for children 9–13 years old. Registration is required: $20 for non-members, $15 for members (fee for one class). ASL interpretation is provided.

December 22
Large Paintings: Explore large-scale paintings in the exhibition, Impressionist Giverny: American Painters in France, 1885-1915. In our studio, create large-scale drawings and paintings from charcoal and tempera paints.

December 23
Mixed Paints: A variety of painting materials are combined in this fun-filled class. Gain inspiration from paintings in the exhibition,
Impressionist Giverny: American Painters in France, 1885-1915. Experiment with texture, color, and shape while using finger paints, puffy paints, and construction paper.

December 29
Digital Portraits and Color: This class blends new and old style by using digital photography to help create an Impressionist portrait. Students will be introduced to Impressionism, use of color, technique, and mixing methods to create a self-portrait.

December 30
Pastels: Learn about perspective, viewpoint, and color balancing by using oil and chalk pastels to add extra details to drawings and sketches.
