Museum Volunteers
The Albany Institute relies on volunteers to help with educational programs, special events, administrative support and in the library. Our volunteers are involved in many aspects of AIHA and are essential to AIHA's success.  Please contact Jeannie Garber, Membership & Events Coordinator at 518-463-4478 x414 or at garberj@albanyinstitute.org for more information.

Volunteer Application

Volunteer Docents
Docents provide programs for K-12th grade school groups, lead gallery tours for adult groups and contribute assistance for special events.  Through gallery interpretation and programming, docents make the objects and exhibitions in the museum relevant to visitors.  Participants who are specifically interested in the docent program may contact the Museum Education Office at 518-463-4478 or education@albanyinstitute.org for more information.

Intern Program
The Albany Institute welcomes talented and intelligent students who are looking for an opportunity to work in a museum setting. An internship at AIHA offers practical museum experience as well as an opportunity to gain general knowledge and broad understanding of a specific department. Interning at AIHA will give you the unique chance to learn about museum work by working directly with museum professionals. If you are interested in a career in museums after college, an internship here will expose you to the inner workings of a museum while giving you the opportunity to make an impact. Internships at the Albany Institute are unpaid. Students are encouraged to ask their respective schools about the process for receiving academic credit. Internships are offered in the following departments: administration, business office, curatorial, development, education, library, museum shop, and public relations. Please contact Jeannie Garber, Membership & Events Coordinator at 518-463-4478 x414 or at garberj@albanyinstitute.org for more information.
