Following World War II (1939-1945), the city of Albany adopted the Dutch city of Nijmegen as a sister city and aided Nijmegen by sending shipments of much needed supplies. Children from Albany could also "adopt" a child from Nijmegen as a pen pal. Six-year-old Albany resident Carol Kay Cross and six-year-old Nijmegen girl Ineke Keyser became pen pals. The two exchanged letters and Carol Kay also received the Delftware ceramic items from Ineke. Both girls shared the same birthdate of April 26. These items were marked as a special gift from Ineke to Carol.

Roeof Elshout established the Oud Delft factory in 1920 in Nijmegen. The mark "oud / Delft" was used by the pottery between 1940 and 1968.
