Comments: Bayard Tyler's landscapes of the Hudson River region display loose brushwork with the muted palette of the tonalists. This view depicts "Humpty Dumpty," a mountain located in the Shawangunk Mountain region just south of the Catskills, aptly named because of its peculiar shape. Tyler is best known as a portrait artist and his most celebrated portrait is that of Theodore Roosevelt, which is also part of the Albany Institute Collection.
