Gift of Alan Lewis in honor of Janice Hart White
William Hart may have used a photograph to assist him with this ink drawing since the image closely resembles a photographic print. Its subtle tonal gradations realistically capture the effects of sunlight and shadow created by the passing storm clouds. Several landscape photographs by American and European photographers remained with Hart's drawings and were ultimately gifted to the Institute in 2004.
