Comments:

Brass founder and scientific instrument maker Joel W. Andrews specialized in making thermometers, barometers, and hygrometers. This large thermometer was certainly intended for use outdoors and may have have served as an advertising trade sign outside his shop. Andrews used his scientific instruments to estimate the altitudes of Vermont's Mount Equinox and New Hampshire's Mount Washington.
