Comments:

Six-paneled brandywine bowls (brandewijnkom) such as this were adapted from a similar vessel with eight panels known in the Netherlands. Many American bowls use similar floral designs and cast caryatid handles with human heads on them. The vessel was designed to hold a mixture of brandy and raisins that would be eaten with a silver spoon as the bowl circulated from guest to guest at weddings, funerals, and other festive occasions such s the birth of a child.
