Transportation to Camp Santanoni
A charted bus will bring attendees to the Camp Santanoni site from Albany. Guests will then be transported to and from the camp itself (4.7 miles each way) by two comfortable horse-drawn trolley wagons, provided by Newcombe Farm.
Lunch
On arrival, participants will enjoy a picnic box lunch prepared by the Museum Cafe.
Guided Tour
Steven Engelhart, director of Adirondack Architectural Heritage, will lead a guided tour through the camp site and its buildings. Participants will have additional time to explore the site on their own before returning to the Gate Lodge Complex on the wagons.

ABOUT CAMP SANTANONI
Camp Santanoni was built between 1892 and 1893 for Albany banker, Robert Clarence Pruyn and his family. As a young teen, Robert accompanied his father, Robert Hewson Pruyn, to Japan during the early 1860s while he served as the second U.S. Minister to Japan under Abraham Lincoln. Camp Santanoni reflects young Robert’s time in Japan through Japanese architectural design elements and layout, but the birch bark covered interior walls and the giant stone fireplace are pure Adirondack rustic. The Pruyn family owned the camp until the 1953. Today, the land and camp belong to New York State and the buildings are being preserved and restored by Adirondack Architectural Heritage.
