About the Albany District (NY) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated

The Links, Incorporated, is one of the nation’s oldest and largest volunteer service organizations committed to enriching, sustaining, and ensuring the culture and economic survival of African Americans and other people of African ancestry. The Albany District (NY) Chapter, established in 1952 comprises nearly 40 professional women and has dedicated more than 70 years to serving the Greater Capital District. Our members annually contribute a minimum of 4,500 hours to various community initiatives — that’s more than 200,000 hours since our founding.

Our current programs span a wide range of areas, we work with community organizations such as the Moon Catcher Project, Grassroots Givers, Girls Inc, Dress for Success and the Black Dimensions in Art, Inc. We are engaged with the People’s Perception Project in the Global Civic Engagement initiative and multiple programs for students in the Albany, Schenectady and Troy city school districts. We provide essential support to families in need through our annual Thanksgiving food basket program and donations throughout the year to the Grassroots Givers. We are engaged in the Arts: We sponsor music lessons for talented students who study classical music, and we co-host an annual Black Arts Exhibit at local galleries.  We have also launched two very successful health-related initiatives with our annual Black Family Wellness Expo and the BIPOC Health Care Professionals Directory, efforts that are helping to break down barriers to access health care information for so many in underrepresented communities.
