Carrying Dows Dunham's Legacy Forward: The Continuing Work of the American Research Center in Egypt (ARCE) - Lecture by Sara Abdelaziz

Join us for a special lecture by Sara Abdelaziz presented in conjunction with the exhibition From the Hudson to the Nile: Dows Dunham and the Archaeology of Egypt and Sudan, curated by Egyptologist Dr. Peter Lacovara and on view November 8, 2025–May 3, 2026. Dunham’s pioneering archaeological work in Egypt and Sudan laid the groundwork for his enduring contributions to the field through meticulous cataloguing, influential publications, and leadership in museum education and professional organizations—including his pivotal role in founding the American Research Center in Egypt (ARCE).

Founded in 1948, the American Research Center in Egypt (ARCE) is a private, nonprofit organization composed of educational and cultural institutions, professional scholars, and private individuals. This lecture honors Dunham’s legacy by highlighting ARCE’s ongoing work to safeguard and promote Egypt’s cultural heritage today through its diverse grants, field projects, educational programs, and community outreach initiatives.

This lecture is generously supported by Andrea Lazarski.
