Free to the Public
About the Talk:
Exhibition curator, Doug McCombs, will discuss the plein air sketches of American landscape artists William Hart (1823–1894) and his sister Julie Hart Beers (1834–1913), which are the subject of the current exhibition, Hudson River School Journeys: Watercolors and Drawings of William Hart and Julie Hart Beers. McCombs will consider the process of sketching in nature in the nineteenth century, where and how the artists traveled, and the choice of subjects selected. McCombs will also offer curatorial insight into the development of the exhibition and will have available a selection of works by both artists not included in the exhibition.
