September First Friday features a free printmaking popup in partnership with Circus!

Circus will screen print an original design related to the exhibition For Legacy and For Life: The Legacy of Black Dimensions in Art, on view at the Albany Institute through December 31.

Circus is a printshop and community hub that empowers individuals to unlock their creativity through hands-on printmaking education and resources. Located at 46 North Swan Street in Albany's Arbor Hill neighborhood, Circus serves printmakers and photographers looking for a studio to print in, artists and business owners in need of custom printed products, and anyone who wants to learn the craft of printmaking.

September First Friday features a special performance by Michael T Lamkin!

Michael is a versatile and accomplished pianist and Hammond organist, renowned for his deep-rooted passion for jazz and an elegant, expressive playing style. A native of Boston, he cultivated his musical talents at Miami-Dade College, North Campus, and the prestigious University of Miami Frost School of Music. He also received private instruction from the acclaimed pianist Walter Cirillo, whose work with Red Norvo continues to influence Michael’s artistry. He has also studied more recently with internationally acclaimed organist Tony Monaco.

Michael has performed extensively throughout the Northeast, captivating audiences with both his solo work and collaborations. He has led numerous groups at the Jazz Vespers services at the Reformed Church of Schenectady and graced the stages of respected venues including the Van Dyck Jazz Club, Prime at Saratoga National as well as Prime downtown Albany and Grappa 72. As the pianist for the Teresa Broadwell Quintet, he contributed to a well-received CD recording. His work with the Latin jazz ensemble Caribe Mambo was spotlighted in Jazz Times Magazine, earning a favorable review that helped solidify his standing in the jazz community.

An in-demand accompanist, Michael has performed with a range of vocalists including April Marie, Jean O'Connor, and Renée Graf, among others. His smooth, elegant piano style has been featured at popular venues such as 74 State Street Hotel, Prime Albany & Saratoga National, Panza's, Provence, One Caroline St., the Circus Cafe, Paolo Lombardi’s and Grappa 72, where his sensitivity and nuance as a collaborator shine through.

He has also appeared at major regional events like First Night Albany and Saratoga, with Caribe Mambo and was featured with the trio for the Dogs of Desire event at EMPAC. As the leader of the long-running WeeB3 Organ Trio, Michael continues to showcase his dynamic approach to the Hammond organ, blending soul, swing, and groove in a distinctive voice all his own. As sideman he has performed with Saxophonists Charles Neville, Ira Sullivan and Trombonist Bill Watrous among others.
