The menu draws from foods a traveler might have encountered at an Albany tavern and an assortment of historic sweets, including Federal Cake, Election Cake, Washington Pie, Rensselaer cookies (koekjes), and sweetmeats.
The LiberTea Party complements the Albany Institute's exhibition Albany, c. 1776 and Dr. Nancy Siegel’s lecture, Political Appetites, presented earlier that afternoon at 2PM. Siegel, author of the newly published book Political Appetites: The Power of Food in Revolutionary America, is Professor of Art History and Culinary History at Towson University and specializes in the culinary history of eighteenth- and nineteenth-century America.
The 2PM lecture is a separate program and is free with museum admission. The ticketed LiberTea Party follows the lecture and includes all food, beverages, and period music by the Musicians of Ma’alwyck.
