Throughout his career, Dows Dunham travelled extensively through Egypt and Sudan, making numerous important discoveries. Now, it is your turn to travel in Dunham’s footsteps! Using a passport template, participants will fold and customize their passport, then embark on their journey through the galleries. Make sure to stop by the Art Cart for a prize when completed!

Golden Bracelets

Faience Scarabs

In Ancient Egypt, the scarab was a powerful symbol of life and rebirth. Create your own faience-inspired scarab using tissue paper.

Model Magic Egyptian Animals
11–4PM | Classroom

While excavating at El Kurru, Dows Dunham found a faience bowl with the image of a bull resting in papyrus. Dunham grew an affinity for this bull and used it as a symbol on his publications. Now it is your turn to sculpt an Egyptian animal—or create your own!

Docent Tours
11AM & 2PM | Meet at Admission Desk
Join docents at 11AM and 2PM for tours of From the Hudson to the Nile: Dows Dunham and the Archaeology of Egypt and Sudan. Docent tours are an excellent way to learn more about the artworks and objects on display, in addition to the stories they tell. Interaction and questions are encouraged, and visitors of all ages are welcome.
