2008 Exhibition by Artists of the Mohawk-Hudson Region

June 21, 2008–August 10, 2008

The Albany Institute of History & Art presents the seventy-second “Exhibition by Artists of the Mohawk-Hudson Region” from June 21 through August 10, 2008. Established in 1936, the exhibition is one of the longest-running regional exhibitions in the country. This juried exhibition occupies a major role in the history of contemporary art activity in the upper Hudson Valley. The juror for the 2008 exhibition is the internationally renowned American sculptor, Joel Shapiro.

Highlighting the work of artists living within a 100-mile radius of Albany, the exhibition rotates every three years among the Albany Institute, the University Art Museum at the University at Albany, and the Hyde Collection. The “Regional” has become a barometer of contemporary art as well as a means of support for emerging and established artists in our community. Many local arts patrons and businesses provide cash prizes and gift certificates that the juror awards to selected artists. This recognition is essential to the growth and vitality of the arts in the Capital Region.

Major funding for the 2008 “Exhibition by Artists of the Mohawk-Hudson Region” has been provided by The Buchman Foundation, Mr. and Mrs. C. Wayne Williams, The Nancy Hyatt Liddle Fund for the Arts, and M & T Bank.
