Bicentennial Portfolio highlights selections from the Kent Bicentennial Portfolio (1975), a series of prints commissioned to commemorate the United States Bicentennial, a celebration that marked the 200th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. The portfolio, commissioned by Lorillard, Division of Loew’s Theatres, contains works by American artists including Jacob Lawrence, Robert Indiana, Alex Katz, Marisol, Ed Ruscha and more. Each of the artists selected responded to the question “What does independence mean to me?”
