Spotlight: The College of Saint Rose will showcase selections from the recent acquisition of important historical artifacts from the College that represent the institution's legacy and enduring impact. The gift, which includes hundreds of objects and documents such as the original charter and the College mace, will now be preserved as part of the Albany Institute's permanent collection.
The exhibition features historic garments such as the Rose Day gowns and crowns, nursing students’ uniforms, college pennants, and photographs and ephemera from throughout the College’s storied legacy. It will highlight the academic and social life of the campus and many of its traditions, and invites alumni, faculty, and friends of the College to visit and reflect on their memories. Following the exhibition, the objects will be preserved in the Institute’s collection and made accessible to researchers and visitors.
Founded in 1920 by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, The College of Saint Rose was a cornerstone of higher education in Albany for over a century. With more than 50,000 graduates and over 100 academic programs, the College’s legacy is reflected in the countless lives it shaped in New York’s Capital Region and beyond. In December 2023, the College announced it would cease academic instruction, and the final class graduated in December 2024. The campus was sold to the Albany County Pine Hills Land Authority in March 2025.
