The Historic Woodstock Art Colony: The Arthur A. Anderson Collection, an exhibition featuring over 100 works from Arthur A. Anderson’s extensive collection of 1,500 works by almost 200 artists from the Woodstock region, will anchor our presentation. Anderson, who donated his eminent collection to The New York State Museum, envisioned the works he assembled as a way to tell a cultural and social history of artists from the region. Works by artists Birge Harrison (1854–1929), Zulma Steele (1881–1979), Konrad Cramer (1888–1963), George Bellows (1882–1925), Peggy Bacon (1895–1987), and Yasuo Kuniyoshi (1889–1953), will take viewers through Woodstock’s early Utopian communities and the innovations of artists who flocked there.
The Historic Woodstock Art Colony: The Arthur A. Anderson Collection is organized by the New York State Museum and curated by Dr. Karen E. Quinn.
