SPECIAL PROGRAM Lake George Boat Cruise

Special Programs

Registration for this program is now closed. If you are interested in participating in another cruise, please contact Doug McCombs at mccombsd@albanyinstitute.org regarding your interest.

Cost: $80 for members; $95 for non-members

Guided by the artist Anne Diggory, this chartered boat cruise will explore Lake George sites painted by Hudson River School artists such as John Frederick Kensett, Asher B. Durand, and David Johnson. Our cruise on the Floating Classroom, operated by the Lake George Association, will stop at select locations on the lake and on shore to compare painted landscapes with views that inspired the artists. Diggory will discuss artistic choices in the selection of motif, composition, and focus. A highlight of the cruise will be a visit to the location in Huletts Landing that inspired the Institute’s painting by David Johnson, Study of Nature, Dresden, Lake George (1870).

Boarding will begin at 9:30AM at Roger’s Park in Bolton Landing and return around 2PM.

The cruise includes a box lunch provided by the Museum Café and a lunch stop at Black Point.

Participants will be responsible for their own transportation to and from Bolton Landing and for parking. Parking in Roger’s Park is $5 per vehicle.

Space is limited to 30 participants and reservations are required.

To reserve your space, contact Doug McCombs at 518 463-4478, ext. 428, or mccombsd@albanyinstitute.org.
