THE LIBRARY 

A non-circulating library, the library collection of more than 1 million items includes extensive collections of primary source material such as photographs, manuscripts, architectural drawings, broadsides, ephemera, maps and scrapbooks in addition to more than 14,000 history and art reference volumes and 125 periodicals and newsletters. Materials in the library complement and enhance the Curatorial Department's collections of fine arts, decorative arts and historical artifacts.

MISSION STATEMENT

Founded in 1791, the Albany Institute of History & Art (AIHA) is a museum dedicated to collecting, preserving, interpreting and promoting interest in the history, art and culture of Albany and the Upper Hudson Valley region.  The museum achieves this mission through its collections, exhibitions, education programs, library, research projects, publications and other programs offered to the general public.
